Sioux City, Iowa - Vesta Brown could be considered an unsung hero. Every day, Vesta braves the elements and, sometimes, crazy drivers as a crossing guard at Sunnyside Elementary School.
“The most rewarding part of my job is the children,” says Vesta, who has worked as a crossing guard since 2002. “I love each one of them.”
During her time at Sunnyside, Vesta has become a recognizable face to many students and families. She can often be seen talking and laughing with students as they come and go from school.
While some days can be hectic, she has learned to maintain her composure. The job has taught her the meaning of patience says Vesta.
Outside of her “Sunnyside family,” Vesta, a South Sioux City, Nebraska, enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband, son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also loves meeting her friends for lunch.
“People should know that here at Sunnyside, we really are the best,” says Vesta.
We couldn’t agree more. Sunnyside is a wonderful place because of people like Vesta.
