Enroll Your Child Today!
Starting TK or kindergarten is a major milestone for children and parents. Rest assured; the Sioux City Community School District is ready to make the transition a memorable experience for every family.
Step One: Locate Your Child's Boundary School
Please take a moment to view our boundary maps to determine where your child will attend school. Families must attend TK/kindergarten registration at their boundary school. If you do not live within our district boundaries, you must apply for open enrollment.
Step Two: Choose Between Transitional Kindergarten (TK) & Kindergarten
Our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program is offered Monday-Friday and is designed for students who are of kindergarten age but may need an extra year of development before they are ready for all-day kindergarten. For the 2025-26 school year, transitional kindergarten will be offered at Liberty Elementary, Nodland Elementary, Perry Creek Elementary, and Unity Elementary.
The SCCSD also offers all-day kindergarten at each of our elementary schools. Students will master reading, writing, math, science, and related arts skills that serve as the foundation of their learning for years to come. Student-focused cognitive and social development is also a part of each day.
Step Three: Complete Pre-Registration
If your student will be 5 years old on or before September 15th and will be attending Transitional Kindergarten (TK) or Kindergarten in the 2025-26 school year, you must complete pre-registration. Following pre-registration, you will receive a registration packet in the mail prior to your child's registration day.
Please note, Sioux City Community Schools preschool families intending to enroll in TK or Kindergarten should complete the pre-registration form if they have not received a packet in the mail prior to in-person registration day at their boundary school.
Step Four: Complete the Registration Packet you Receive in the Mail
Following pre-registration, you will receive a registration packet in the mail prior to your child's registration day.
Please complete the documents in the packet, schedule required screenings and immunizations, and come prepared for in-person registration day.
Step Five: Attend In-Person Registration Day at Your Child's School
Registration day is especially important for families to attend! On in-person registration day you will receive personalized registration support for you and your child, and the tools your family needs to feel confident and familiar in a new school this fall. During registration you will be able to meet teachers and see your child's classroom. Families MUST attend TK/kindergarten registration at their boundary school.
Iowa Department of Public Health Lead Poisoning Notice
The State of Iowa requires all children entering kindergarten to have at least one blood lead test before the child is 6 years of age. The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) manages this program. Lead poisoning is a serious problem in Iowa. The main source of childhood lead poisoning is lead-based paint, commonly found in homes built before 1978. Other sources of lead can also poison children.
