The Board recognizes that occasionally students, parents/guardians of currently enrolled students, and/or staff of the District may object to library materials utilized by the District, despite the quality of the selection process. Because opinions may differ in a democracy, the Board has adopted a procedure that will strive to reconcile those differences in a straightforward and factual manner.
Requests for reconsideration will be conducted pursuant to Board Policy AR604.72 Reconsideration of Library Materials.
No duly selected material(s) whose appropriateness is challenged shall be removed from a library program except:
Upon a discretionary removal by a teacher librarian under Board Policy 604.73 – Library Materials Removal;
Upon the decision of a Reconsideration Committee;
Upon formal action of the Board when a Reconsideration Committee decision is appealed; or
Upon formal action of the State Board of Education when a Board decision is appealed.
