School-to-Work
by Dr. Michael McTaggart
The Sioux City Community School District offers a School-to-Work program for high schools students (grades 9-12). The program focuses on providing opportunities for students to learn the necessary skills to transfer what they have learned in the classroom to a work environment.
The School-to-Work program offers high school student the opportunity to intern with local businesses. Students with a high aptitude and interest in a career field may intern in a local business or professional environment, learning from professionals. Students who have 90 contact hours with an employee earn a grade and credit toward graduation.
School-to-Work benefits:
- Students learn the connection of their course work to work environment.
- Employees have a chance to make a powerful influence on the best and brightest of our students.
- Businesses have an opportunity to recruit future employees.
- Students are given the opportunity to learn what is required to be successful in the career field of interest.
- A powerful communication network between our schools and businesses is established.
This year the Sioux City Community School District has placed over 100 interns in local businesses through the School-to-Work program. If you have an interest in participating or if you would like to sponsor an intern, please contact Dr. Michael McTaggart at 203-1846.
